Insights: Legal cannabis set to grow scientific R&D

Recently, we’ve considered how the legalisation of Cannabis in Canada has promoted growth in the scientific research and development industry. With the market expected to grow to $11 billion by 2025, our latest infographic showcases how developments in the industry are expected to promote growth of more than 50 per cent.

With this information, we’re hoping to help the industry take cannabis use seriously and highlight it as a potential growth application area within the scientific community.

Our Operations Manager, Ted McGuinness, explains: “Back in 2001, Canada became the first country to legalise cannabis for medical use. Since then, the ingredient has been used across a number of consumer products, thanks to the hard work of research and development across the country.

“By releasing this infographic, we’re aiming to highlight just how many uses it has and how it can help R&D flourish. For example, Canada’s 129 licensed cannabis producers are now looking to work with scientists on everything from gene mapping and metabolic engineering in order to further the potential of the industry and the uses of cannabis products.”
