Insights: The future of sustainability calls for green laboratories

Recently, we’ve been thinking about the impact the scientific industry has on our environment. This has led us to start calling on the scientific industry to evaluate where changes can be made in sustainability, as labs have an environmental impact that is five times bigger than that of office spaces.

Our infographic below ‘The Future of Green/Energy Efficient Labs’, highlights some hard-hitting facts that may make readers think twice when relating to how their labs operate. For example, if laboratories saved just 2% of plastics from landfills, it would equate to saving 100 million metric tons of CO2.

Our Operations Manager, Ted McGuinness, explains: “At Delta, we are thinking of ways we can reduce our carbon footprints internally as we think it’s important to take responsibility as individuals. Labs are estimated to throw away 5.5 billion kilograms of plastic annually worldwide.

“By releasing this infographic, we’re hoping to guide the industry into adopting greener practices and change the way we think about our working habits. As scientists and innovators, we should be leading the way when it comes to doing our bit towards a greener future.”
