Burgener Research Introdues the new SC175 Nebulizer for Single Cell & Particle Analysis

Application: The SC175 has been designed specifically for single cell and single particle analysis e.g. single celled diatom species analysis1. It can also be used for any analysis requiring very low flow rates e.g. plasma printing of gold nanoparticles2.

Nebulizer Outer Body Material: PTFE nose with PEEK body

Nebulizer Inner Capillary Material: PEEK

Sample Capillary: 175 um

Sample Flow Rate: 5 ul/min up to 1 ml/min

Gas Flow Rate: 45 PSI @ .75 L/min

60 PSI @ 1.0 L/min

Flows rates less than 0.75 L/min are not recommended

Compatibility: The SC175 is supplied with 1/16” OD PFA capillary tubing to conveniently attach the sample line to a pump or injection system. Appropriate gas lines and sample lines are included to run Burgener Nebulizers on all Agilent, PerkinElmer, Shimadzu, Spectro, Thermo Fisher and other ICP-MS systems.

Because the SC175 is designed to handle very low flow rates and high speed analysis with ICP-MS, it is not intended for use on an ICP-OES.

Why PEEK and Teflon?

The back half of the nebulizer is made from PEEK to provide durability and strength. PEEK is also resistant to most acids and solvents. The nose of the nebulizer is exposed in the chamber, and therefore constructed from Teflon which is more resistant than PEEK with repetitive usage.

In order to provide very low flow capability, the inner capillaries are made from PEEK. Wetted PEEK capillaries allow the sample to flow smoothly to the gas orifice. This allows the nebulizer to produce a constant flow even at very low flow rates, which is necessary for single cell and single particle applications.

The X175 nebulizers used in these studies were calibrated specifically for the purpose of single cell and single particle analysis. These specially calibrated X175s became the SC175 now available.
